Finding the correct WiFi driver for my Dell OptiPlex 9010 All-In-One

I [apparently] have a Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 according to my properties in Windows 7, but I can't find a compatible driver installer.
When I run the designated driver installer or install it manually, it says no device like it is connected.

I vividly remember the WLAM 1530 halfcard, but I'm not sure.
Can I PLEASE get some help? I am very confused.

Hi gcoil828:

Go to the Dell support page for your OptiPlex 9010 All-In-One at Support for OptiPlex 9010 All-In-One | Drivers & Downloads | Dell US select your operating system, click the "This Device" tab, and enter your unique Service Tag. That should display a list of all compatible drivers for the hardware that shipped with your computer.

I chose a 64-bit Win 7 OS and searched for "Intel 6235" for the image above and that support page is recommending the Intel 6235 802.11 a/b/g/n (64-bit Driver) v15.2.0.1258 (9010_Network_Driver_VH5X6_WN_15.2.0.19_A01.EXE) released 28-Mar-2019.

Specs and support articles for the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 Dual Band wireless adapter are posted at Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6235, Dual Band - Product Specifications | Intel.

Hi, that is the driver I'm having trouble with.

When installed on Windows 7, it runs as intended.
When installed on Windows Vista, the iWrapper application stops working, another service stops working, it can't find something in KERNEL32.DLL, anything related to the communication such as the radio stops working, and it just doesn't function.

Hi gcoil628:

I assume you already knew this, but the Dell support page <here> for the OptiPlex 9010 All-In-One shows Dell does not support the Vista OS for this computer model. (see image below) As such you will find it difficult, if not impossible, to find any Vista-compatible drivers for the hardware that shipped with your OptiPlex 9010 All-In-One.

The Intel support page Supported Windows Operating Systems for Intel Wireless Products also shows that Intel provides drivers for the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 for every Win OS from Win XP (32-bit and 64-bit) to Win 10 (64-bit only) EXCEPT Vista, so I'm guessing you're out of luck.

Dell OptiPlex 9010 All-In-One Support Page Vista Not Supported 15 Aug 2024.png

I'm also guessing you post as user gravitycoil628 in the Dell forum. Do you still run 32-bit Vista on your Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop? You've been posting in the Dell forum about your Inspiron 1501 as recently as April 2024, and Dell officially supports both 32-bit Win XP and Vista for this model, so I'm not really clear why you need (or would even want) to install Vista on your OptiPlex 9010 All-In-One.

I noticed you mentioned the Windows Vista extended kernel today in your topic Intel HD Graphics 4000 Code 39. If you're experimenting with the extended kernel on your OptiPlex 9010 All-In-One then I'd advise you request assistance in win2's Windows Vista Extended Kernel in the MSFN Vista board. Many Vista enthusiasts are active in that MSFN Vista board and it's likely the best place for you to be posting about your issues trying to run Vista on your OptiPlex 9010 All-In-One hardware, even if you want to use a regular "plain vanilla" edition of Vista SP2 on this computer.

Alright, thank you.

Also yes, I am that user! I was using Windows Vista because my OptiPlex 9010 All In One natively supports Windows 7 and I thought it could run Vista somehow. I'll be visiting the MSFN Vista board.

Hi gcoil628:

Just keep in mind that the OptiPlex 9010 desktop (support page <here>) and your OptiPlex 9010 All in One (support page <here>) are different Dell computer models.

As far as I can see the OptiPlex 990 desktop support page <here> suggested in Stephan Pringle's article does not offer a Vista-compatible driver for the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 WiFi adapter installed in your your OptiPlex 9010 All in One.

As I mentioned in post # 4, Intel has never released a Vista-compatible driver for your Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 WiFi adapter. You've said elsewhere that the Win 7 driver for this adapter doesn't work correctly, so if you can't get the Realtek wireless USB dongle you mentioned in your MSFN topic Windows Vista - WiFi networks show up, can't connect though + Another issue working then I'm not sure how you will be able to create a wireless connection to your OptiPlex 9010 All in One while running a Vista OS on this machine.
