Far Cry 2 TOMORROW. :)

Seems it works fine on some systems, not on others, no real reason pinpointed. I think it's gotta be drivers. When Nvidea get this sorted we'll see. As for the Window making the difference? If it's good for you, who cares why it works. It's a viable solution I haven't seen anywhere else. I don't know why it works?

my mate, who works in the games industry, reckons it's to do with a programming bug ( ubisoft ).....but agreed that's an odd issue.

Guess some of us will have to wait for a patch.

I'm having an issue with FC2 on my laptop now. I tried to install it on there and while it plays the sound of the opening intro and music etc I get no graphics. Odd stuff. I'm thinking the laptop's older video card just dosen't have the juice to run it.

Also, out of the blue, I can no longer run it in DX10 mode. This is annoying. I had to run it in safe mode and change back to DX9 in order fpr the game to load up without crashing. Blah!

What video driver are you using, I had the same problem when I used the the new beta driver, go back to the 178.24 driver and hopefully that will fix your problem.

I just got my new GTX260 now the game really flies!

Were you asking me what driver I'm using? I'm actually still on 178.24. I would really like to get DX10 working again for sure. I might try to reinstall my driver and see if that fixes the problem.

Also thanks for the system req list. My laptop is running an olllddd x200 GPU so that's definitely why I can't get it to run. I figured it would run because Hellgate:London and a few other newer games run quite well on it with everything turned down, though. Oh well. It's not designed for modern gaming so it's not exactly a shock or anything XD.

I still cannot get it to run full screen...I've tried new old drivers / windows updates / latest directX 10 and i still get poor performance when in full screen. I'm not going to waste any more time on it.

Not that I have'nt read this thread, but I am getting a ctd when trying to play in DX10 mode, DX9 is ok, but like most people I want to be able to enjoy it in DX10, I remember having the exact same problem with Crysis and now don't know what to do, are you all using the beta drivers? or am I best off waiting for either a patch or for the official drivers to be released?

I am weary of beta drivers incase my other games screw up, but if any of you are using the betas, how do find them with your other games.

I don't want this to sound like a rant, but I am beginning to wonder why I bought a DirectX10 graphics card when it can't run DX10 games.

Three now I have that have this problem

Crysis
Assassins Creed and now Far Cry 2 :(

I have the latest drivers from Nvidia the 178.24

Very disappointed like alot of other people

I am using DX10 with 4x Anti-aliasing with my new GTX260 and it runs great, as it does with all my DX10 Games, I think my E8500 @ 3.8Ghz helps allot too and 4 Gigs of Low Latency RAM.

Here are the Benchmark results with Ultra settings.

Tablet? not with you sorry, but at a guess I would say not no :)

As for other GeForce cards, yes they might be ok with DX10 games, but and again I forgot to mention it, around the net for those games I said I have problems with, it all appears to be 8800 GTX card related..........should have mentioned that before

But for now I will have to stick with DX9 more's the pity :( (then again, it does'nt look half bad in DX9)

Look in the services and see if 'Tablet pc input' service is running - stop it temporarily to see if that help. It may be running even if you are not using a tablet. DX10 is much nicer fullscreen.

Well I checked for that "Tablet PC Input" and it was there and running, so I stopped it and tried Far Cry 2 in DX10 Mode and all I can say is that it has not ctd at the point it did yesterday and all appears good.......this is also with the latest drivers and not the betas.

So although I am yet to play a prolonged session to see if it remains stable I came to say thanks to you Damocles for the tip as it seem to have solved the problem, I just hope I am not speaking too soon :D

Can't understand mind you why on earth Far Cry starts in a window, no other game does this and you have to wait until the game is at the main menu before you can Alt-Enter into fullscreen, daft  still if it runs now in DX10 then that would be the least of my worries

I just have to say that the fire effects are the best I have ever seen in my life, I'd post a screenshot but it really does'nt do it justice, the way it starts off small and then spreads is something not to be missed, and at night its even better, I am still picking my jaw up from the floor!!!

If only there was a free recording program but alas only Fraps and then you must buy it to get the full recording feature......I tried it once, but my games lagged badly while trying to record, and if you don't buy it you can only record for a very short while if I remember rightly, I may be wrong though and would stand corrected :D

What FPS are people getting on this?

I'm getting around 40-50 at 1680x1050, 4x AA and Very High settings in DX10 with the 180.43 drivers. I've not found anything to compare it to really, so just asking.
