External HDD Partition problems. Please help.

How large is the partition that you are trying to format?

the one i am trying to extend?
it's the 94.87 gb of formerly unallocated space, now NTFS
the 746.49 gb of unallocated space seems to be dead space as, from disk manager at least, it can't be used for anything

Have you tried formatting the entire HD before trying to partition?

is there a way to format the entire drive at once?
i mean wiith all the partitions it has
but i have tried to delete the 2tb partition and all that happened is that it merged with the 94.87 gb while still being separate from the 746 gb
i can also use that 2096 gb to make multiple partitions, i have tried to use it to make 3, while still being unable to do anything with the 746 gb
I can also extend the partitions but only using unallocated space in the 2096 gb

There is software called gparted, which may help

I tried to put gparted on a usb, tried all 3 tutorials and it didn't work
don't have any blank cds or dvds with me
I formatted the partitions with the ehow guide and I still can't use the 746 gb for anything
my partitions can't be extended

this may or may not be relevant but I am using an hp pavilion laptop if it helps
oh, I may reaplce the drive tomorrow, i still have the receipt so I can change it for the same kind
If I do, is there anyway to bypass the 2tb limit for fat32, not really important but curious
And if there is, what are the cons of bypassing that limit
if not

Fat 32 has a 2tb PARTITION size. I dont know how to get around that.

I tried it just now and what I got was

i tried it as an admin and the same thing happened

You right clicked on cmd and then run as adminsitrator?

Use an elevated command prompt and try that way

See my above post about elevated command prompt, but to be honest if yours said system 32 that was elevanted.

Well after some more searching on my own, I realized many programs and computers don't support 3tb drives, at least partitioning them. It's highest was 2tb. So I used Paragon Migrate to 3TB which made all of the drive usable
