If you have important files then please back them up using the Ubuntu Live CD also Do you have an Installation Disk?

i backed all the important files and documents before i started all of this.

the problem is i have an application program called quick books

that we have a license for and crashed under windows vista.

intuit wants even owners of quickbooks to buy another license when

the computer crashes, at least that is what i was told.

i would like to be able to use that program and a few others

and fix the windows vista.

do you know of any way to re-intstall the core driver in the appropriate

directory. \windows\system32\DRIVERS\disk.sys.

as i mentioned i did successfully create the repair disk for the sony vaio.

could not repair.

Do you have a link for this Program? was it already installed on the laptop when you brought it?

1.) yes we are the original owners of the laptop.

2.) yes we installed the Quickbooks Program from original disks

no quickbooks does not allow a reinstallation after a crash.

you have to buy a new quickbooks program with another serial number.

my main question is how i can reinstall the corrupted drivers that are not allowing

the vista to boot. the disk.sys is in the \windows\systems32\DRIVERS\disk.sys

directory, however it is corrupted. this is more of an educational situation then

a financial one.

that is my main issue. the repair did not work. as i mentioned

sony gave us the free upgrade, now they now longer support it.

we got vista from a "free upgrade" from sony corporation.

now our computer has crashed and i do not have install disks

and sony will not send them even if i pay, they say go to microsoft

because our vaio says it is for XP professional. if i got this file disk.sys which is corrupted and installed in the following directory. i may be able to have access
to my laptop

\windows\system32\DRIVERS\disk.sys

could you send me this file to see if this will work

What do you mean but why?
Do you mean about the consequnences? All I am trying to say, is that I do not have a lot of information about the driver. I have Window 7 and 64 bit. Dont really know if that will make a difference.
Seven is Vista under the skin, I think that drivers are the same, but the important word is THINK.

i do not believe that driver will work.

as i mentioned sony no longer supports vista so bummer

Just remember that Installing drivers is not a cimple Copy and paste

With other drivers like graphics etc you will need one of 3 types of Drivers

.ini , .cab and can't remember the last one sorry

and then you would use DRVLOAD command in cmd to "Inject" the driver

I have not tried this for core drivers so this maybe hit and miss
