I have downloaded the pre beta and installed it it has done nothing more than increase the speed of my system a bit, nothing else that is immediately noticeable but I will give it a run and report back.

This is how i did it.

I found a way to show the vista sp2 update in WU (for those people who are having no luck with sp2 update)

1. download and install WUA version 7.2.6001.784

32-bit: http://download.windowsupdate.com/WindowsU...Agent30-x86.exe

64-bit: http://download.windowsupdate.com/WindowsU...Agent30-x64.exe


2. download and install KB955430

http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownlo...f15686736db.msu

3. restart and check for windows updates.


works for me now

You are, of course quite right. As I am not an idiot I installed this on a machine that is not 'needed'.

But everything is running smoothly and I can honestly say that there is no problems so far.

Hi I have just joined and I am having no luck with downloading this. The links are dead at my end? Also I tried the method on page 1, Again no luck iI get as far as agreeing and downloading SP2 but nothing happens? No progress bar etc, Any ideas? Many thanks, Andy.

Hi Owzyafava and Welcome to the Forums

I cant download them either, I think echrada copyed the links incorrectly

Did you follow the guide from the first post by our Admin Brink (Shawn)? It has the registry key you need to get the update via Windows Update

Just beware its pre-beta (alpha) software, so theres no use or need in trying it just yet...Might be better to wait for the real beta

I am now running this and it seems considerably faster than before, No problems to report at this stage, So all and all I'm happy with it!

well i installed this on My main laptop (not fussed if it mucks it up, can be replaced) and there is no changes to report from me (well i mean what do i expect its a pre-beta)
the 29/10/ has gone now and no SP2 out.

UPDATE: SP2 Beta Released

You will need to uninstall the Pre-Beta SP2 version first if installed, then install the newer Beta SP2 version.

Offence taken, i think if anyone finds it a stupid idea to install the pre beta, should keep it to themselves. Let other people find out for themselves.

Has anyone installed the Beta yet and found any problems to mention and was it worth it.

I'm waiting until there is a SP2 RC1 version before installing, but Vista SP2 is expected to be released in final form sometime in the first half of 2009.

Thanks Shawn, that's a long wait and I don't know if I can wait that long, I have a dual boot system so I might give a go on 32bit Vista and see how it goes and then I might consider trying it on my main Ultimate x64 operating system, hopefully there will be only minor bugs that need fixing but if it can offer some performance boost I'm all for it.

I'm waiting until there is a SP1 RC1 version before installing, but Vista SP2 is expected to be released in final form sometime in the first half of 2009.
