Display 1080P with Sapphire Radeon HD 4850

Hello Everyone,
I'm building a computer and have all of the components (just need to finish putting them together). Now, I have a Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 card and was hoping to watch Blu-Ray videos on my current monitor which is an HP w19b. The monitor has a maximum resolution of 1440x900.

From what I understand of HD technology, this would mean that no, the monitor would not be able to handle the full 1080p resolution, but it should be able to display 720p.

But here is the question, will my current monitor be able to display ANYTHING from the Blu-Ray player?

I think the confusion comes in when I see these monitors that advertise HD capable, but I thought all monitors were HD capable, you just need to know what resolution you are trying to display the HD at, 720p or 1080p.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You will be able to watch your Blu-Ray movies on your computer in full screen with no problems assuming, of course, that you have a Blu-Ray drive in your computer. Since you monitor supports a resolution up to 1440*900, the image of a 1080p movie will be scaled down a bit to fit your screen, but the image itself won''t be cut off or distorted in any way.

I've watched some HD movies on my 22" 1680*1050 monitor, and they look amazing especially compared to the stretched image of DVD movies (720*480). It will show details you never noticed before in the movie. Coupled with a surround sound setup, your movie watching experience will be amazing lol.

Dude that's awesome...just out of curiosity, what type of monitor do you have? I'm in the market for another one... I want to stick with a 22" model since the prices for 24" seem to skyrocket...

I can't even look at DVD's on my HDTV...even recent movies look like they were filmed in the 80s. I don't have a blu-ray hooked up to it. I've seen some demos at Best Buy of Blu-Ray and they look incredible! It was then I knew I had to go HD.

The prices are dropping for Blu-Ray as well, I just picked up Stargate for $12.95. Terminator and Terminator 2 Blu-Ray are around $18. Sure beats the $27+ price tags they had a few months ago!

yes it sure will look great.. I have some HD movies and they look great with my new GTX260.. You'd be better off doing 720p instead of 1080p cuz then it doesn't have to scale down.

I have a Samsung 220WM that I picked up at Best Buy on last year's Black Friday for $200. It has a really nice picture and the viewing angle is pretty good as well, plus no dead pixels Keep an eye out on sites like Deals2Buy or other bargain hunting sites where they post up specials and sales. I've seen some Acer 22" monitors going for less than $200 sometimes.

I think I'm going to go with a Samsung monitor. I used to work at a Circuit City and Samsung (along with HP) and don't laugh, Gateway, typically released great monitors. I also liked a few of the LGs I saw there.

What do you think of this Samsung 2253BW? NewEgg has it for $269.

The Samsung Syncmaster 226BW also seemed to get some solid reviews, but the price was a little more expensive. I also couldn't find it on NewEgg for some reason. Is this an older model?

Well, I'm no expert with monitors, but the customer reviews are pretty good for the 2253BW and the monitor has a 1000:1 contrast ratio too. Looks good to me.

I just bought a pair of Acer X213w Monitors - 2500:1 (DC) COntrast Ratio, 21.6" Viewable, amazing quality. I had to fight tooth and nail for these though....
