DIrectx 10 can't initialize the install

every time i download and try to install the newest version of directx, i get an error saying that the install can't initialize and that i need to try again later or check my connection. . . any help?

You cant download DX10 and as far as I know theres been no updates for it.

Download DirectX Redistributable 9.0c November 2008 - A very useful application for running and displaying applications rich in multimedia elements - Softpedia

Unless you for some reason distrust softpedia ofcourse... I've installed that version and it's fine. It's the latest directx redistributable.

well then i'm not sure what it is, but it's the latest directx from the microsoft website, and it's needed for the game i'm playing, Age of Conan, but every time i try and install the dxwebsetup.exe i get that same error on initializing. . .

Age of Conan works great after installing the mirrored dxsetup from softpedia. I know that for a fact.

You realise thats still DX9 and not DX10?

No that softpedia link is correct it's DX 10 for vista 64. You can also try these links. Got them off the Conan boards. The downloader didn't work for me either.
