DESPERATE!! Lost Word files on Vista

Hi,
I am using Vista Basic and I have 2 Word files which are missing. The only evidence of them is the shortcut icons, which say they were saved as doc.x files.
But when I click on the shortcut icons it says "The item 'RMforCM_Contents_09.docx' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly."
I have downloaded Recuva, but no luck so I'm hoping I just haven't used it correctly yet.
Does anyone know any tips? Do I have any hope of retrieving these files?

Hello Dave, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If the files are still not located at the original location that you saved them to instead of just where the shortcuts are, then try Recuva or ShadowExplorer from the original folder location of the files to see if they may be able to restore them instead.
