Desktop Freezes and I must restart the computer

Well not all network activities, I surf the internet and use other programs that connect to the internet, nothing happens. But when it has to do with windows functions (windows update, windows network file copying) it crashes. I ran the norton virus scan a couple days ago, but this PC is a week old.

If the PC is a week old, you *can't* ahve that many files saved to it yet - take it back and / or call the OEM technical support and demand a replacement.

A replacement for what though? I don't know where the problem is coming from.

I built it from scratch, I don't know what the problem is, it doesn't make sense to return every single part does it?

NM - you answered when I was posting.

That makes it a lot harder to deal with - I was under the impression that this was a bought machine.

Since it is a week old, format and reinstall would be your best option.

Can the wireless card be a possibility of the crash? Because from what I remember, everything was installed smoothly without any issues. My wireless card has signature issues until I played around with it and I believe I found one that was signed and works with 64 bit. All the other drivers installed without any problems.

The crash happened from day 1 while i was surfing the internet (first and last time it crashed on that), so I don't see how reformatting might solve the problem.

Run a wired connection, disable the card and see if it continues to occur. Either way will answer your question solidly.

That is true, I will try to find a cable that is long enough to reach the router. Will update you with any new news. Thanks a lot for your help, so that means it is possible for it to crash the system?

It could very well be - and it would explain why it is occurring - the wireless card is negotiating with the router on a continual basis, and surfing the net is not a resource heavy process, but file transfers are - so something somewhere isn't hunky-dory, meaning that as the resource usage goes up something starts to fail.

Well that makes a lot of sense, because the only time the internet crashed was when I first got it, and at that point I went to a site and kept clicking on different links to see how fast it would load (Testing wireless card) and then suddenly it crashed while loading a site with a lot of stuff to load in it.

You are not the only one. I also have random hangs (no BS) even with(out!) all recent OR old drivers (of every hardware!) in EVEN 32 or 64 bits version. Take a look in de admin tools for the logfiles and you'll find 2 main problems (I don't have the details with me now, somthing about Http and something about a security pack kerberos that is NOT needed in Vista).

Clicking on those redirects you to a knowledge base of MS wit all sorts of comments of user having exact the same experiences driving everyone crazy. Before that all my NEW hardware had been exchanged and still it exists.

MS seems to ignore all those uses and even tells to ignore these logfiles / error ("LOL", ignoring an error!) but most of those users even have the newest hardware!
