Solved defender turns off

I use vista basic, I've recently had my computer took right back to factory settings as I've been havingso many problems with my lap top, then the registry was sorted out, I know I've not got any virus on the lap top, each time my computer is turned on, I'm told that defender is switched off and I've got to turn it on, I've even tried to start scanning, to see if that would stop it, but it still happens, has any one any idea what is causing this, as I'm getting pretty cheesed off with this, :sa: j62

If you are using (MSE) Microsoft Security Essentials. Defender is turned off by default, because it is no longer needed.

When defender was being turned off all i had was avg, as soon as i deleted avg defender worked ok, i've since deleted avg again, now i have micro soft essentials, so far so good, if it turns defender off, what do you suggest, i've had problems before with avg, only then it was avg being turned off, don't you just love computers!!!:d thanks for replying

You do not really need defender if you have MSE. If it turns Defender off don't worry about it. You should actually turn it off your self. Read this answer from Microsoft.
