Data Protection description

Data Protection is a counterfeit application which pretends to be a legitimate security tool. It is also from the same rogue family as Digital Protection, Your Protection, User Protection, Dr. Guard and Paladin Antivirus. The trojan based software starts its activities as soon as it installs onto your computer. Malware has no ability to detect and terminate the parasite. It only gains that user lose their vigilance and would buy a registered version of Data Protection application.

This is a fraud and dangerous for your computer. Behind an offer stands bad people who will use your money for malicious intentions. This application is not worth spending your money. As any malware this one will scan your computer automatically and will show fake results. You should ignore it. Do not fall for this blatant scam. Data Protection can also redirect your web browser to deceptive web pages that advertises “full” version of the security tool. Do not buy it, but choose decent anti-spyware application and terminate Data Protection upon detection.

- the conclusion is that Malware bytes does remove it,, you need to download the lastest malware byte or update the one you got

And you need to to go on safe mode on your computer for it to work..

I know it's hard to beat Freeware, I have some myself, but not as a protection tool, just bite the bullit and get real Antivirus software like ESET NOD32. The money you spend today will save you more later, cause it's not if, it's when. www.eset.com

Thanks Ashvin, it is also all the more reason as members of this forum when recommending Security Software we also supply the OP with the appropriate download link, to save them picking up on one of these rouge apps. while desperately searching for the security software that we recommended to them.

The thing about that one is that is took me a while to realise that it was a fraud software.. a client downloade it.. but yes.. those fraud software looking more and more real..

So maybe the time is ripe for trying to get Admin to allow a Sticky Thread at the head of this Forum, listing all commonly known Fake Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware, Anti-Spyware etc. applications. Forewarned is forearmed!

Members posting warnings of new specific threats, must give a link to the source, quoted as the reason for including and adding the rogue application to the list [as seen in this thread].

I see your point, but there are hugely more bad than good, and the names are changing all the time. It would be far more realistic to list all the good anti-virus and say if you find one not listed, then be very careful and get someone experienced to check it out beforehand.

Yeah you are right i just counted up 155 that look like legitimate Security Software

In keeping within forum rules i can not post a link to the source

I think it comes back to what i said initially when recommending Security Apps to anyone provide them with the appropriate safe download link

I agree. Download links will help, and to be honest, we all know all the good. And the names change so often, that I would imagine that 155 would be about right for individual fake anti-virus. It also should be noted that the names and programs come and go, so it is unlikely that you would be able to find certain revisions.
