If the location is within a subkey, it might be necessary to change permissions for one or more subkeys. Can you give a screen shot of the key and it's subkeys?

Can't create, edit or remove the reference at all...keep getting an error message...

Just as a thought, have you tried un-installing the printer & re-installing it?

That's what I think.

In that subkey on my system, there's only two lines- default and device.

Hmmm...on an unrelated matter, I did uninstall and reinstall the printer in the last couple of weeks. I still get the same error message when I boot. But also, I only have one printer and it will not allow me to set as default (it doesn't have the green check mark next to it when viewing printers). It is hooked up wirelessly if that matters at all...

I just un-installed and re-installed the printer which solved the issue of setting the default printer...

But I still can't edit that registry record, nor can I delete it outright...

If you right click on the Windows subkey and select properties, does the administrator and the system have full control under the permissions? If not, you should change it. If successful, you should be able to delete the offending values. If you're not comfortable with editing the registry, set a system restore point before changing anything.

Hooray!!! That one worked!!! I am without the annoying pop up window now!!! Thanks to everyone who replied to my thread, you have all been a big help!!!
