what does opening the dns do?

IM sorry its not opening DNS, its using a different DNS server called Open Dns. If your ISP dns servers are problematic opendns is free reliable and fast. Just google open dns.

Let us know if you need help

Even doing the open dns it still did it. Ah this is so confusing. I have had my cable company come over and do so much. Again am rma my board to see if its just a crappy Ethernet port.

Was kicked off again with it saying this.

There may be a problem with you Domain Name Server (DNS) Configuration.

Windows failed to find the well known host "www.micorsoft.com" using DNS. The server may be down.
