Connection Issues

I recently connected my computer running Vista to a new network. My internet connection was working fine for about two weeks and then started disconnecting me.The other laptop running XP has no problems. On the Vista machine I keep getting the "connected with limited access" message. It will connect for 10 minutes tops and then drop. The signal strength is excellent, so that isn't the problem. I downloaded the hotfix on the windows site, but it told me that I didn't have the problem the hotfix was supposed to address. Does anyone know what my problem is and how to fix it?

Hey Burtknee,

Let me be the first to welcome you to the Vista X64 forums.

When you say "disconnected" do you mean your connection was stable/decent and then suddenly dropped? And if so, does it reconnect immediately afterward or stay down?

Your WiFi router settings may be the issue. Can you tell us more about your network setup (i.e. do you have both laptops online at once, do you have any additional switches/routers, make/model of your router, etc...)

Thank you so much for replying!

When I say "disconnected" I mean that when I pull up the Wireless Network Connection Status box, it shows that the signal quality is either 4 bars or full, and that the IPv4 connectivity is either "limited" or "local". It attempts to reestablish the connection to the internet after it drops. When I am connected, the signal is awesome and the speed is up and everything.

I am using a Netgear WGR614 v6 router connected to a desktop running XP. We connect two laptops through the router wirelessly, one running Vista and one running XP. The two XP computers have been fine, no connection issues whatsoever. Even when I take the Vista computer near the router, it still diconnects/reconnects me repeatedly.

I hope this helps.
