Computer Slowed :(

Last week i went to start my computer, and it took a very long time to boot a load up. I get to the login screen and i input my password and it takes just as long for it to login and load my desktop.
Once everythjing has succesfully started up, no matter what i do my pc continues to run slow, every application i open takes a long time, many of them are non responsive, its virtually intolerable to work with..
In simple terms everything got slow! Any Ideas of what can be a major contributor!?

Have you tried running an AV scan to check whether anything malicious is present?

I had symantec antivirus installed, it later stopped working! I hen installed MICROSOFT SECURITY ESSENTIALS and have been using that ever since I do weekly scans and update it everyday, according to that my system is clean. I have Also used a registry cleaner and cleaned up what I could.

I have the paid version, since I won it. I have used the free and it is just as good as the paid version for this purpose. Just install it and run a scan. You may find that it makes note of malware that you did not know you had, but did for quite a while.

It will show if the poor performance is caused by a conflict or software that is corrupted.

What are your system specs, sometimes having outdated hardware on windows vista can cause your computer to be slow (OEM's are cutting back these days). Also, just my suggestion, i would use avast! home edition as virus protection. http://avast.com

I ususally check on that regularly, sometimes i do have problems. That is fine i have already done it. I appreciate it!
The malwarebytes had found 8 items i am glad it did, most of them were not a big threat lever.. all but 2 worried me; one was a Trojan and the other was found in my Registry. My pc runs a bit smoother not, and i have cleaned the registry also and updated all my antivirus etc. and i have also uninstalled some programs and applications that i do not use to help it run faster.
