I've taken a deeper look at the events log, and though I'm not exactly sure what to look for nothing looks too out of the ordinary. I broke down my sql queries into pre-shutdown, and post shutdown events of all sorts.
Leading up to the shutdown there is a lot of activity from the task scheduler and the task engine which result in the final result of the task engine being properly shut down. This took place 9 minutes before the shutdown time, and there are no events logged through the 9 minutes from the task engine shutdown to the system shutdown.
The only error present is
"The previous system shutdown at 6:00:33 PM on 7/29/2012 was unexpected."

Some other stuff I don't know what it means...
WHEA successfully initialized.
4 error sources are active
Error record format version is 10.
The EventSystem sub system is suppressing duplicate event log entries for a duration of 86400 seconds. The suppression timeout can be controlled by a REG_DWORD value named SuppressDuplicateDuration under the following registry key: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\EventSystem\EventLog.
Are there some sources of my event log that I should post in more detail for analysis?
