If you put the 0x in front of the number and google with these terms
windows error code 0x80070081
you get hits. Generally it's a good idea to google first since the error code is in any problem description. Looks in this case like it's not a windows error but a code from some software maker.
I have the same issue got email from MS support tday however could not complete as my permissions have been messed up too it seems ... waiting for them to get back to me... did you get it sorted if so how??
What software have you both installed, or even the last 3 peices of software. uninstall those and see what happens, i had similar problems before. not the same code but it did mess my premissions up. difference is i did a full format and started again.
But it will be linked to software that was recently installed

OK well I finally gave waiting to see if Micsoft was going to help me.
I figured if I have to do a fresh install I may as well install windows 7 that I have had laying around here for a while and see what the fuss is all about...
I gotta say I'm not that impressed yet and I can't update that either........
get error code 80080005 on that one ... I think there is something smally in MS camp.... I"m starting to think Apple might bge the answer... every couple of year MS goes to ****..
