Solved Changing User Folders
Hello,
My icons are perfectly fine, there are no problems. However, I have these super cute
PINK folder icons that I am dying to use instead of the way *yawning*
boring blue icons.
Now I imagine there is way to change these icons, or new ones would not be available for use. I feel about my computer the way I feel about my home. It is a reflection of me, and I am not a "default" or "standard" person
.
Even if it is complicated
I want to know how. Please, Please help me. I don't want to die of computer bordom.
Thank you so much!
StantonMD
Hello Stanton, and welcome to Vista Forums.
Using this
tutorial as a guide, you can:
Open the
C:\Users\(user name) folder that you want to change.
Doubleclick on the desktop.ini file to open it in Notepad.
Next to
IconResource= , change what is highlighted below to the full path of the icon file that you want to change it to.
In Notepad, click on
File (menu ba) and
Save .
You may need to logoff and logon, or restart, to apply the change.
If the icon gets messed up, then you can use the
tutorial to restore the default icon back.
Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thank you for your quick responce.
Unfortunatly it didn't change the icon. Here are the two places that I put the icons in my attempt to change them.
C:\Windows\System32\Folder Icons\icontexto-aurora-folders-contacts
and
C:\Users\Owner\Documents\Icons\Folder Icons\icontexto-aurora-folders-contacts
Now I noticed that in the original files they frequently use the % sign. Should I be using the % sign, or is there maybe a better location to place the new icons so that the program will recognize the path.
Again, thank you so much for your quick responce!
Misti
Misti,
It wouldn't hurt anything to try it with the % sign. Here is what those paths would be with it. Be sure to include the file extension of the file though.
%SystemRoot%\System32\Folder Icons\icontexto-aurora-folders-contacts.ico
and
%UserProfile%\Documents\Icons\Folder Icons\icontexto-aurora-folders-contacts.ico
