cd/dvd drive not working

Not sure where to post this one at? I have this Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop(it's old) and the CD/DVD drive is not recognizing Cd's or DVDs. I have checked in the device manager and no issues present, checked and made sure device is enabled...it is. When you put in a music/data/movie disc in the drive, it acts like it wants to load and yet nothing happens not even the auto play, it does not pop up and it is also enabled. Yet in my computer it shows it's there and right clicking properties says the device is working properly.

Might be a dirty laser head. try blowing it out with canned air. they also make a dvd cleaner ( cd with a brush on it) to clean the gunk off the laser.

Have you tried the dvds in another dvd player to make sure its not them?

It's always the simple things.....apparently it was just a dirty head or some foreigner object inside. Did as you suggested w/air and popped in music CD ad wallah it's playing...now I'm out of canned air.....lol. Here I am performing open heart surgery on it.....with driver updates and bios settings. Dude thanks so much.

You was lucky. glad its working. might want to get one of those dvd clens cleaners. they are cheap.
