can't get steam to boot

For some reason, I can't get steam to start in online mode, which is preventing me from playing Team Fortress 2. It just stays on an "updating: 0%" message, followed by a Windows error prompt saying "Unable to load library Steam.dll"

Anyone have a fix?

Steam forums and the like have nothing useful for this problem.

Okay, so this is really weird. If you have problems with Steam, a common fix is to delete the ClientRegistry.blob file in the program folder and then run Steam. DO NOT DO THIS. It creates an error which only seems to be known on Ubuntu and Wine.

The error is that Steam will start to update, but only reach 26%. At that point, Vista will pop up an error message saying that you can only run one instance of Steam at a time. Steam will then close. If you look in your Steam folder, you'll notice at that point that in addition to Steam.exe, there is also SteamNew.exe and SteamTmp.exe. The only fix that I've been able to find is to either put back that ClientRegistry.blob, or to reinstall Steam. If you do reinstall, make sure to save your SteamApps folder so as not to have to download gigs and gigs of games.

It had many customers that had the same issue

Just search the forum put in the impossible to read codes until you find it!
