Cannot access secure sites

Does it think it has a firewall on, or does it think it has a *norton* firewall on?

It thinks it has a norton firewall on, a maCaffee firewall on and a vista firewall off

2 firewalls is going to cause havoc ***no matter what***.

Remove both McAfee and Symantec products and reboot and see if you start getting Secure sites.

Ok this happened to me after installing McAfee Total Security 2008.

How I resolved it
1) Uninstalled McAfee (Disabling Internet security didnt work, must be uninstalled)

2) Reset all internet settings (Internet options, Advanced, reset)

3) I set the proxy to auto detect as McAfee changed it. Make sure Internet options > Connections > LAN > Auto detect proxy. is checked.

4) Reboot

Thats how I resolved mine. It was working up until I installed McAfee. If you have McAfee, uninstall and try. If it works install avira premium instead

Thanks for your help! I actually resolved a lot of problems with this thread. Still haven't gotten Norton all the way off my computer but I have been able to access secure websites with very little issues. I have had a few things going on with my computer that makes me concerned that my neighbors computer may have infected mine when my virus updates were down. Plus my father decided to change virus programs and I want a fresh start to get the other two off. So I found a tutorial that tells you how to do a clean install from a vista upgrade disk so I am going to go ahead and reformat the HD to ensure I get all the unwanted programs off of my computer. At least now I know what to do if I run into this problem again! Thank you so much!
