Can i reinstall vista with old one on and still access my files and docs

ok im installing to an external hd cos i dont want to mess around partitioning the drives already in the laptop just incase i lose so data or i patition it wrong. Do you think this will still work on external hd?

Hey its me again sorry to bug u guys, Just tryied in install windows and it wont accept my key, Is that because its already in use mith my laptop?

This is what you do. If the copy is legit, first you must uninstall from the lappy then you install. When asked for the key, dont give it and untick activate automatically when online
Then complete the install
Within 30 days activate by phone. If not accepted a rep will come on; explain to him and you will be activated.

how can you uninstall it from the recovery cd.
Windows was already installed from new and didnt come with a cd but has the code underneth

That is an OEM you cannot move it to another compter. If it is the same compter, does it have the letters OEM on the key?
Is there a key number on the DVD envelope?

yes it says it at the top of the sticker.

Can i still remove it then?

i do have a hooky copy that doesnt need a key but dont really want to use it if i have to

Use the number that came with the DVD.
If no number came with the DVD use the OEM number that is on the computer.

I go back to my original post, dont give the number when asked, untick the box activate automatically online and then activate by phone

It can only be on one computer at a time, which is what I understand the situation to be here.
