C drive too small, please help!

Hello,

I have been dealing with a nearly full C drive for months now. I have a Lenovo L300 Y410 series. From the factory, it came with 30g on C, and 105g on D. I currently have a range of 1-500 MB on C free, and about 40 g left on D.

I have tried to extend the C drive in Disk Management, but the option is grayed out. I have tried Disk CleanUp, deleted shadow copies, moving all files I can think of to D, yet the problem always returns and I still have less than a gig left on C. Lenovo Tech support has also not been helpful.

I am reluctant to use 3rd party partioning software b/c I've read that they can be unreliable and leave the system running funny.

I do have a Lenovo Product Recovery Disk that I have not tried because I want to be sure that I can increase the C drive before going through the trouble.

I appreciate the help,

Have you run disk cleanup? have you deleted any un-necesary applications? deleted off unnecessary backups.

Your best bet would be a larger drive, but failng that do you have an external drive that you can move stuff to?

there are free (or trial) 3rd party apps like parigon disk suite, and acronis disk utilities.

So besides expanding C what can we do for you?

Hello,

Yes, I have tried Disk Clean Up many times and deleted unnecessary apps, shadow copies, and back-ups.

The thing is I dont' have anything personal on C, it's pretty much all system files. I've heard Vista needs 40g to run and I have 30. All of my Doc, Pics, Music, etc. are on D.

I am thinking about deleting my D drive (after backing up of course) to try to combine it with C. Any opinions on that?

First vista doesn't need 40. really doesnt even need 30 Im running it 20.6 and have abt 4gigs of junk on the destop.

Would you be willing to try to find out what is using all that space on your HD?

If so there is a free (trial) 3rd party app called treesize pro it can be found here JAM Software - TreeSize Personal - Hard Disk Space Manager that shows folder size and many more statistics

install it (really small footprint) and run it on c: it will tell you how much is being used and by what apps

make a snapshot of the display and upload it to us.

Let me know if yu need help with any of this
