Building a computer (HELP)

Hey guys.

I'm looking to build my own computer for about £600 (about $980 for the US)
Could anyone help me with what parts I should get?
And is it easy to build once I have all the parts?

I will be using it for gaming and video/image editing and schoolwork.

Building a pc's quite easy. But you need a checklist of items that are needed. Do you have any parts right now like a keyboard, monitor etc that you can use or are you going to have to buy everything.

I Have a mouse a keyboard and a monitor. The monitor is quite bad but i can get a better one later.

ok just curious.... how much can you actually spend? (meaning can you do more than 600?) and second do you need to get a OS also or do you have one?

Processor is a poor choice. 4 cores won't be used. Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 is much better and a GTX 275 will give you more fps with all games.

um not the processor is a good choice because with video\image editing it would use all four cores, and the reason for not going with the 275 is that it is at least £70... but if you do want a faster gpu, this one is just as fast as the 275 but at least £20 cheaper and uses GDDR5 instead of GDDR3 and has a much higher core clock and memory speed, and if you overclock this gpu can easily do a 1ghz core clock

wow and all that comes to £666!!??? you can buy a new pc with that specification for about £3000! wow. i really need to build me a pc, but am only 13 years old! and i don't wanna sell the lappy i have already got. arrghhh!!!!:eek:

hey could i dismantle the laptop, use the processor (but buy the cooling equipment), 4 gb ram motherboard, a spare tv set i have got, the network adapter and possibly use the laptop optical drive?
Then maybe i could buy a psu, case, graphics card, processor cooling fans and hard drive? would i be able to do that?

There is no point using laptop parts either way. They are too slow and I doubt you could fit a desktop gpu into a laptop motherboard, where is the PCI-E x16 slot?
