Hi Richard,
OK I flashed the bios and that updated it from 2007 to 2009 (latest). It also corrected the gibberish that was on the first bios startup screen. I then ran 2 driver utilities.. One named Uniblue driver scanner and the other named driver detective. Both showed all drivers up to date except HID keyboard device and HID mouse device. I updated them to the latest drivers. TBH I expected to find far more than that?? Anyway I loaded on Malwarebytes and kicked off a full scan after downloading the latest definitions. I have not had the result of that yet as I left him to it.
I have noticed there is an enormous amount of disc activity going on when system is in idle state. Have checked in task manager and cant see anything eating up resources there and CPU and memory seem fine. It is as if there is some kind of disk analysis going on in the background. He is using eset NOD32 Antivirus.
The plan is to see if what we have done today has cured it ,if not then a windows 7 scratch install on Thursday. He is getting to the end of his tether on it as it BSODs at least once a day
