I have seen this problem many times but I didn't think any of the solutions provided would fix my problem. First of all, I just reinstalled windows yesterday using the Recovery Partition-(Factory_Image (D)-which was successful. The problem occurred directly after the re-installation upon start-up. Also, the BSOD will pop up at very random times, i.e when the computer starts up, when installing a program on the desktop, leaving the computer idle. It seems to me that it's a problem that only happens when something fails and that something likes to fail at random moments in time. I would like the best possible information about what course of action I should take to fix this.

Vista Home Premium 32 bit. (Compaq)
Vista was the first and only OS ever installed.
I believe it was an OEM because of the Recovery Partition and the lack of an installation disk.
The computer was bought December 20th 2007. The actual age is most likely 24th August 2007 (Time was repeatedly resetting to the same time prior to the re-installation to windows, thus I am assuming that's the manufacture date.)
The current Vista OS is a single day old, yesterday was the first re-installation of Windows Vista.

Again the problem occurred directly after the re-installation of windows, the very first start-up. (Crashed before even coming upon the log-in screen.)

I appreciate any help in advance, also try to "dumb" the process of doing this down a little because I don't know that much about debugging or any other things of that nature with computers. If you give me explicit instructions I will be able to use them, however. Thanks, Austin.

Outdated drivers I have never seen so many in one report. These MUST be updated. Hopefully they are not the immediate cause of your BSOD or we will have to do a driver verifier test

You have submitted about 6 reports each one is different. This can be caused by memory corruption.

Solution
I suggest a memory test.
In addition one report suggested that it was your anti virus a very common cause of BSOD. Uninstall your AV and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials. Uninstall with the AV uninstall tool, which you can get at their website.
Check your hard drive as this was a potential cause, but not too likely.

The reports that you have submitted reveal clues to the cause of your problem. They do not give a definitive answer. The more reports that we receive the more clues are made available improving our chances of finding a solution to your problem. You may have to experience several more BSODs until the final answer is discovered.

If overclocking restore normal settings

SFC /scannow
System Files - SFC Command
Download memtest86 and test RAM
www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

Update outdated listed drivers. If I have inadvertently listed any Microsoft Drivers, they can be ignored. Due to the extensive nature of the list, we will wait but if we cannot find the BSOD cause a driver verifier test must be performed
Uninstall your current Anti Virus and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials.
www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/
Test your hard drive at the manufacturers website.

Scan with your Anti Virus

Test Hard Drive www.carrona.org/hddiag.html or this test http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

How to Find Drivers
search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone - will help you search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- The most common drivers are listed on this page: http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html
To remove any left over driver remnants, especially from graphics cards, use driver sweeper
www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
You can also locate information about your driver using this information
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/96442-device-manager-finding-unknown-devices.html

After performing all of the above, post back with any new BSOD reports, or indicate that the attempted repairs were successful.
If any links do not work, if clicked, please copy and paste to browser address bar.
It is very important to remember that the dump reports only give clues as to the problem and although it is very easy to analyze only one or two, usually more are needed. If you experience additional BSOD after installing a current version of the driver in question, be sure to post so that we can use the additional information to assist you in preventing the BSOD's

Okay rich, I'll get to all of those things asap, also after submitting the last message there have been no BSOD at all, they seem to happen at completely random times. Also because I re-installed windows all of the updates were wiped clean (I had 100 updates to install and both service packs for Windows Vista). Currently I am installing service pack 2, I don't know if the lack of these updates caused the BSOD's but it's worth a try. On another irrelevant note the update KB941600 refuses to update. Also my parents are buying an anti virus for the computer, would Kaspersky be a good choice? After I finish doing all of the instructions you gave me I'll get back to you. Another thing, would re-installing windows (reverting it back to factory condition) reset all the drivers as well?

My Computer

On the Anti Virus. Tell the folks to save that money and get you something else
You can get the free Microsoft Security Essentials, the free malwarebyts and the free windows fire wall. At least as good as the paid AV.
http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Reverting back to factory conditions means just that. Everything will be as old as day your bought the computer.

I have come to see that Memtest86 will take a long time to complete so I think I'll save that until later. I have the system scan running right now, also do you know anything about the updates if that could cause this problem? Because I have noticed that people that re-install windows get a BSOD.. So could re-installing windows really cause this?

My Computer

I do not know anything about updates causing a problem. Most of the problems were caused because, the computer owner, had it set to automatic and too many were installed at once. Do it the long way, install one or two at a time and you should be OK.
Reinstalling windows should not cause problems, but I have seen the situations that you talke about.

Mem test will take hours
Run for at least 8 passes and then take a good stick and test each slot.

When you say take a good stick you mean manually opening up the computer and removing a memory stick from the motherboard? Great, I get to learn something new! And.. potentially break something.. Anyway uninstalling AVG and installing microsoft security essentials. Also I don't have any blank CD's to burn anything on, and for the Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools (tacktech.com) I don't see my manufacturer listed.

With the memory, that is what I mean. I am now adding that unless you are confident that you know what you are doing, do not do it. Have a friend or even an enemy, who is proficient in this help you.

You need CD, you can borrow one or two from a friend, or buy a few they are cheap. You just saved a bundle on the AV

See if this gives the Hard Drive Mfg

The un-installation of AVG restarted my computer then updates started.. well updating, anyway I have no experience with taking apart a computer so I think we may need another option.. Running Belarc Analysis right now, then downloading MSE

EDIT:Just got the results back from Belarc Advisor what information do you need?

My Computer

Also using Drivers and Downloads -> pcidatabase.com -> drivers online I found a program that checks if your drivers are out of date, they aren't the ones listed in your list but it says that my display and network driver are "bad". Does this mean there are problems with those listed?

My Computer

Dont use that software to download anything. You can update what it suggests, but do it yourself.

With all these BSOd and different codes. I lean toward hardware, starting with memory. Take the memory test.

Sending more reports will be just a time waster, if corrective action has not been taken first.

Oh right, forgot.. I'll have that to you in the next post, also I don't really know where to find the drivers to download, should we save that for later? And I have MSE installed and the malware program.

My Computer

You have many different codes, it may be hardware. Start with the memory that is the most likely.
With a new anti virus and a memory test, we can go from there.
