the probable cause of this crash is memory corruption. I notice that almost half of the drivers are dated before 2009 and some are as old as 2006. These need to be updated.

I suggest
Update the drivers listed below.
download and run a memory test preferably overnight (use memtestx86)
run a system file check to verify your system files
If you are overclocking STOP
to run system file check type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>
type sfc /scannow

UPDATE YOUR AVG ANTI-VIRUS

Let us know the results

Hope this helps

Ken

Thanks for that Ken, I've tried the Windows update and also looked on Dell site for up to date drivers and there are no more up date drivers for the laptop. But I'll run another check tomorrow and also do the checks your suggested.

Cheers

download and run a memory test preferably overnight (use memtestx86)
run a system file check to verify your system files
If you are overclocking STOP
to run system file check type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>
type sfc /scannow

Hi Ken,

Just to give you an update. I've just been running memtest on the laptop and after 1hr 10 minutes the laptop turn it self off, so I'm not sure what to do now.

Any help would be grateful.

Edit:

Power lead had come out lol.

Yep, most likely the drivers.
We could run Driver Verifier to pin down the drivers a bit more - but the outdated drivers on the system would make that futile.

Update all drivers from 2006 and 2007. If it still BSOD's after that, then we'll give Driver Verifier a shot.

I've updated all the drivers except 2 through Driver Detective and some of those were not signed by Microsoft and also made for other laptops but did go through. So all I can do now is see how the laptop goes.

Hi guys,

Just an update to my problem.

Since I updated the drivers - except 2 the laptop has been working fine up to today. But suddenly when I was on Facebook's Farmville the laptop came up with IE8 has crashed and needs to restart, so I went through the process as normal and then I got the BSOD. This time it stated "memory management".

I've attached a zipped folder a has 2 mini dumps with the BSOD that I received 3 minutes apart from each other.

Any help would be grateful, as I have got another laptop thats the same (Dell 1525) but this one has got W7 installed and thats working perfectly - so far (far as I can tell different drivers).

Cheers

windows 7 requires the same specs as vista - 1 gb should be enough as minimum. so it is perfectly normal for him to be running windows 7 with those specs; it just wont be very fast, that's all.

Hi,

So if the 2nd dump shows a memory corruption what could be the problem after memtest showed no problems with the actual memory. I do have another dump when I got another BSOD yesterday, but I didnt post it as I was waiting for the first one to be looked at.

Cheers for the help.

My Computer

I had this problem on another PC a while ago, we set the ram timing manually, (to the manufacturers recommended specs), and set the Voltage a bit higher, and it fixed it
The memory can show as corrupt for a number of reasons, not just because the memory is bad.
If you want to eliminate the memory completely, try another set of ram.

Download and run this, post a screenshot when done. Lets see what you have running.

Cheers for the reply.

I'm attaching the latest BSOD dump that was from yesterday and the hijackthis txt file

I've also done the Vista's own memory diagnostic program and that came up as clear far as I can tell. But the log is in a bin file format so I can only say what I saw on the screen as it kept pausing at 21% and 80% and then carried on after 10 - 20 minutes after the pausing.

Far as I can tell on the Dell 1525 you can't set the voltage on the memory. But I'll have a look.

I've also swapped the 1GB (512MBx2) and the 2GB around to see if that would work, but that doesnt work and still get the BSOD. Though the 1Gb and 2Gb are at different speeds. If all this all fails to find the solution I'll just have to bite the bullet and purchase some different memory and see if that will work.
