Solved BSOD critical service failed 0x0000005A

Yes Rich,

But I was talking about full reinstallation aVista with format all the partitions I got.

I have 3 primary named (.WINRE, C: and D:)and 1 logical partitions (F:).

As I plan to format C, D and F, one by one. My question was : What to do with .WINRE primary partition ? Keep or delete ?

Sorry for my poor english Rich, I'm doing my best to be understood.

That DVD is suppose to bring you back to the way the computer was the day you took it home. You will lose your stuff, so back up first.
All partitions that were on the computer when you first took it home should still be there. All other partitions and software will be gone.
It is best to note however, that sometimes, things do not work the way they should. May I suggest.
Download Macrium Reflect, it is free software to back up your hard drive. Back up eveyrthing on an external hard drive. Then use your DVD to install. The install will be just like day one. You will not have updates, photos, documents, favorites etc.
Make sure that you understand the consequence of what you are about to try.

Hi rich,

I'm using Ubuntu to back up all my datas. My doubt was about format or not *.WINRE hidden partition. As you suppose, DVD will rebuild a new one.

I'd like also to have an advise about partitions.

Is it better to have a C: drive for Vista Business OS with programs or C: drive Vista Business OS + D: programs (logical partition) ??

Is it more reliable to install Vista SP1 before installing any program ?

Hi rich,

I'm using Ubuntu to back up all my datas. My doubt was about format or not *.WINRE hidden partition. As you suppose, DVD will rebuild a new one.

I reinstalled my OS a while back and it was my decision to have only one partition, C:.
The only benefit that I know of to have two parttions is that if you have to reinstall, you do not have to touch your stuff with two partitions.
I cant guarantee anything as each company if free to do as it wants, but the CD that comes with the computer is suppose to restore a factory installation, which means it is suppose to restore to the state that the computer was in on the day that you bought it, with all the partitions. If you do not get the Winre partition when you reinstall, you do not really lose much. You have the DVD to reinstall and you did not even use the Winre this time when you reinstalled. You will be able to make system restore points, etc, even without the Winre.

I'd like also to have an advise about partitions.

If you follow my instructions, now, the extra partitions are really of no value. When you are installed and are happy with the performance and all your software is installed, may an image using Macrium Reflect. Put the image on an external hard drive and forget about it. Now once a month make another image, this second image will be updated once a month. If you ever want to reinstall, just use the first image that you were very satisfied with or the upadated image, if you are still just as satisfied. No need to reinstall the programs, already on the image, and therefore, no need for that second partition. But, yet, it is still subjective do what you feel is best. Whatever you decide, it will not affect the day to day operation of the System

Is it more reliable to install Vista SP1 before installing any program ?
I would first install all the SPs and updates and then install programs. One thing at a time.

Hope this helps. Dont forget to download and use Macrium Reflect.

I thought that I did answer all the questions. Ask about the partition again, if I omitted something.
Macrium is to be downloaded and used after you are up and running again, to your satisfaction.

Hi again Rich,

Thanks for your advise for Macrium, nice apps for my new 'laptop' ;)

Is it better to have a C: drive for Vista Business OS with programs or C: drive Vista Business OS + D: programs(logical partition) ??

In both case, I plan to create a partition for datas.

Bottom line, there is no better or worse and with Macrium it really makes no difference. Personally, I have only one partition.

Big big troubles !

My laptop, suddenly shut down drastically so that it can't even boot any Live CD. I also tried with WinRe F8 with the same results.

Moreover, when lauching WinRe with or without a Live Cd, it ask me for my password session. This is new !!

I had another blue screen :

STOP: C000021A (Fatal System Error)
The initial session proces or system precess terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0X00000000
(0XC0000001 0X0010034C)

I tried again to fix the mbr with :

bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootrec.exe /fixboot

but nothing changed.

Fortunately, I passed loading Hiren Boot CD, that's why I'm here.

This new issue (shut down unexpectedly) need to fixed before I reinstall Vista.

I need help for my MBR. I have MBRfix and MBR Utility and DiskGenius.

I suspect that my Bios is corrupted by malware, not sure but it can be.

That last post seems to indicate that the problem is caused by a bad hard drive. If it were me, the next step would be to back up my stuff and then try to take the hard drive test.

Test Hard Drive

Hard drive scan usings SeaTools - SeaToolsfor Windows | Seagate - Both long and shorttests

Before anything try to save your stuff

Hi Rich,

No problem, my data have been saved.

SeaToolsfor Windows | Seagate
System Requirements:

  • Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, XP or 2000.
  • Microsoft .NET Framework v2.0 - Available for download (approximately 23 MB) from www.microsoft.com. Search the site for .NET 2.0 or go directly there.
  • VGA 1024x768 or greater graphics capability.

What I will need is an iso file to repaired these bad sectors. I run again DiskGenius and HDTune, both detected 2 and 3 bad track disk on my C: drive which I formatted on yesterday (so that it's cleaned).

I formatted all my HDD with DiskGenius on yesterday.

In case that we don't find any solution to repair these bad sectors, I hear that is possible to bypass wrong sectors, but I don't know which programs can do it.

Do you think that these bad sectors will be related with the blue screen I got at first, with Critical Service Failed error ?

Take the Hard Drive test as suggested. Im leaning toward a failing hard drive rather than just bad sectors. We can probably fix bad sectors by a defrag and a chkdks for errors.
Defrag is done last.

You told me to do this hard test with SeaTools, but you forgot that I just formatted my HD and this tools only works on Windows.

Are you tell me to reinstall Vista even with these bad sectors and taking on account that my laptop can shutting down unexpectedly to test my HD with SeaTools ??

What is disk sector and bad sector, how to repair bad sector

It is very normal for some of these sectors to be bad sectors, even when the drive is first manufactured. In addition, a small number of sectors will normally go bad during the lifespan of a drive.
When this happens, the data in those sectors may be lost, but the data on the rest of the disk will be unaffected and the disk is still completely usable.

A bad sector cannot be repaired, but it can be marked as unusable.Once marked as unusable, the Operating System will know not to attempt to store data in that bad sector.

So, I'm not sure that these minor bad errors are the culprit the BSOD I encountered.I suspect my dead batteries. Before this issue, I got an error drive on the Device Manager. I will try to boot up without my batteries to see what's happening.

I know what bad secors are. What Im suggesting is that bad sectors may be the tip of the iceberg; your hard drive may have actually gone bad

Hi Rich,

I've just noticed that Seatools is located also to the Hiren Boot Cd.

Unfortunately, when I'm running in Dos Mode (from HB Cd) after a few minutes, my laptop shut down unexpectedly once more.

I tried to check and repair sectors with HDAT, it founds one bad sector, but the scan wasn't completed as my laptop shut down.

What's happening ?
