i dont think that is going to be an option. I'm really closeto just buying a new motherboard, this is driving me crazy I need my pc to work. I used a vista repair dvd and it found no errors preventing windows from starting, passed the memory tests and system restore did no good either.

Your crappy part is youre on a 775 platform.... and ddr2 ram.

I wouldnt sprend much on it.. I'd look at clear outs and your local shops... If you have a fries or microcenter, assuming youre in the US.

Bestbuy is my only real option locally. I usually use newegg.com. Any suggestions from there?

I ended up taking it to a cpu repair shop. They are telling me the hard drive is loaded with viruses and I need to reformat and reinstall windows. I don't want to lose all my files on this cpu, and furthermore I don't think they are right. Opinions?

If you can run a full anti virus scan
Download and make a full updated scan with malwarebytes.
If you cant boot, this may be a problem, see if you can do it in safe mode.
If you cannot, there is no way to test for malware.

not being able to boot is an awful problem. I'm thinking of getting a new hard drive and putting a fresh copy of windows on it. Then maybe I could hook both hard drives up with the new one as the master and the messed up one as the slave. Would this allow me to access the dump files and try to see what the problem is? Or at least let me back up the things I don't want to lose from my old hard drive?

I would d/l ubuntu Homepage | Ubuntu

Use the livecd not the usb key option, then boot to ubuntu, copy all your files to either your other computer via the netork, or use an usb drive to take off the files.

My question though, is how do theyh know its virus's? A virus can not stop a linux cd running as it has nothing to do with windows or windows virus's

I assume they just don't know because they couldnt get it to boot either. Hopefully ubuntu from the cd will work and I can access the minidumps or at least back up the important stuff. Let's assume that it wont work, since nothing else has. I'm assuming its hardware at fault. If I could borrow a friends pc what would be the best way to identify what part of my system is causing all this trouble? Just put my parts onto his motherboard and see if it would boot?

what do you mean 1 by 1?
doesn't the jcgriff app collect them all when it runs? if not how do I know which ones it has collected? there are more than 100 dumps? do you want me to run windows debugging tools and just post the !analyze-v reports for the latest dump files?
