And while you're at it you will need a new copy of Windows, as your Acer provided one won't work/activate with a new motherboard.

As far as the bios goes, AMI/Award/etc have nothing to do with the bios once it is added to a motherboard, that all comes down to the computer or motherboard manufacturer. In your case if you tried to use the bios for a retail motherboard you would be lucky if the board would even post afterward, to say nothing of the fact that Windows would no longer be activated.

Microsoft will let this slide. You call them and tell them the motherboard is bad and you replaced it. On OEM version you are allows 7 changes before they get picky. Most of the time, Microsoft resets it with no problem.

hm...... if i can get them to change it over once....... that would be perfect but if i have to sell my original acer to get the money for my cpu/mobo i'll just have to get a new copy

For complete info on your machine : go to cnet.com and download Sytem info for windows (SIW) It is free and will list everything : hardware,software,components etc.

Do you also know that if you are running a x64 system Acer Bios will not load and execute. You have to partition and install a x86 version of software to be able to load and execute new bios.

i've tried alot (and i think i did this one to) and i always get nothing more than what i have already posted i'm just going to get a new cpu/mobo at somepoint
