back up updates?

Maybe this is a dumb question, I don't know. I reformat my computer about twice a year to keep things ship shape and one of the most annoying things about it is getting back all the windows / microsoft updates. Is it possible to back up all the updates you have on your computer to speed things up?

Also, if I have Vista SP1 as my install disk, and have SP2 saved to a disk can I just go ahead and put SP2 on right away or do you have to get all the little in between updates that came out before SP2?

Just trying to make my reformat time a little less painful.

Thanks in advance.

If your Windows disc is SP1.... You can install SP2 straight away. SP2 will contain all the hotfixes & updates since SP1.

The best way to keep updates in order is by keeping your standalone service packs for when you do reinstall. Keeping and installing various updates & hotfixes out of order can lead to some problems. So I recommend just using the Windows Updates to install various updates since the SP.

You could also look into what's called "slip streaming". You can include Service Packs & Updates and create a new Vista install disc with everything included.

Get yourself a Disc which has SP2 slipstreamed in it.

Type this in google
For 32 Bit
en_windows_vista_sp2_x86_dvd_342266.iso

For 64 Bit
en_windows_vista_sp2_x64_dvd_342267.iso

Burn it to a Disc and install it straight away with SP2.

Windows Vista will get other the Updates after Installation.
