Auto Select New Folder

Before SP1 was installed, whenever I created a new folder, and then clicked on the folder icon while I was changing the name from "New Folder" to whatever (or pressed <ENTER>), I would immediately go into that folder, so that I would not have to double-click it to go in.

Since I installed SP1, this is not happening. Is there any way of re-enabling this feature?

Hi Peter,

I never had that option, even before SP1. I did notice that if you press Enter twice after typing in a name it will open the new folder. Perhaps you were pressing it twice without noticing it.

Perhaps, but before SP1, if I used the mouse to click (not double-click) the folder icon after assigning the new name, Explorer went right into it. I found this "feature" to be pretty handy time saver when saving files and I wanted to create a new folder directly from within the Save As dialog...

You nedd to double click in which pane?, in the display pane it is normal to double click, in the left pane, a simple click does the job.

Basically, before SP1, when I created a new folder (in either Windows Explorer or a File Open/Save As dialog), I type the name that I want to use, then single click on the folder icon to both rename "New Folder" and then immediately enter that folder.

Since SP1, this only seems to work now when in a File Open/Save As dialog...

You can map a drive to a folder and it opens. I have never seen a new folder auto open on creation.

Try opening Notepad, typing something, then saving the document. In the Save As dialog, create a new folder, then click the folder icon after you typed a name for the folder....

I was just wondering why that same functionality is gone for Windows Explorer windows after I installed SP1...

Ok Peter,

I see what you are talking about now. It opens the New Folder after pressing Enter one time, for the typed name, in the Save As dialog box for me with SP1 installed.

The only way I can get it to work like you described in Windows Explorer is to press Enter twice after typing the name.

I guess maybe I was thinking if a File Dialog view can do it, then so can a Windows Explorer view (they're all using the same underlying Enhanced ListView component), and that perhaps there is some kind of settings that can be adjusted.

Odd really, as I could've sworn that this was normal behavior for pre-SP1, and I'm not about to uninstall SP1 to find out...

I don't know of any setting that would allow this. It would be nice though. I'm pretty sure that it didn't work like that before SP1 either.
