Another 4gb Vista 64bit problem

Ok, maybe I should have been more clear. In my experience, Vista x64 doesn't work without that patch if you have 4GB+ of memory.

I have done clean install of Vista 64 Ultimate with 4GB and all 4 slots populated....
No BSOD..... Maybe some motherboard have problems, and some don't.

I think I might have fixed it.

I was using the purple Gigabyte SATA ports with the Gigabyte RAID driver.
I've moved to the orange Intel SATA ports and the Intel RAID driver and all seems ok so far...

Thanks for all your advice. I'll probably be back for more questions soon

12V combined is 40A or 480W. Should be OK. Reset the CMOS to default timing and reseat the RAM. Memtest86 is a good program to test each stick one at a time.

Ok... I must be missing something. How did you come to the conclusion that his 12V rail is drawing 40A ?

Also, it's a pretty well established fact that most power-supplies under-perform. It's generally a bad idea to run a power suppy - even a brand-name one - at full throttle all the time. My personal rule of thumb is to buy top-shelf psu's that are rated at least 25% over the max the system will ever use.
