MS will eventualy try to force you to install SP2 but that can be stopped by setting windows update to just notify you when updates are there. that is the setting i use. going back to previous state should fix your problem and should have no bad effects. look at it this way, you are having troubles now with it. as for the people who you bought it from they may have a point. i would try and get an updated DVD with SP2 integrated into it and do clean install with that. but first try to restore back to before you installed SP2
