Yes, the service still runs in the background. It is reported that it may have a conflict with Spybot Search & Destroy installed with it, but I have not had any problems with the two yet.

What about gaming and stuff, why couldnt ad aware have left the software alone and kept it like se.

I think SE is the best, so easy to use and doesnt take up any resources. I dont know what to do, install or not install.

At the moment im using this (below) with Vista64

Kaspersky Internet Security v7
Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE
Spybot Search & Destroy
Windows Defender
Mcfee Site Advisor

Do you reckon thats enough protection, or should i get rid of ad-aware SE and install Ad-Aware 2008.

Support for Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE has now been discontinued, automatic file definitions have been abandoned and soon the definition files will no longer be supported as a manual install
so that really only leave you with the options of not using ad-aware at all or upgrading

the new version isn't really that bad Lavasoft have just had to move with the flow

i would recommend updating but the choice is yours

p.s running 2008 will find stuff that SE is not programmed to find

this has always been the case..... and what it really means is if run adaware and quarantine something then spybot can not remove it and visa versa

As Ripbox posted to, I would recommend that you uninstall the outdated and unsupported As-Aware SE and use the new Ad-Aware 2008 that has been designed to run on Vista.
