Figures. I won a 1 year subscription for it last year, and they arbitrarily activated it n June of last year, though I never installed it....

Then, when they offered to let me beta test 2008 My machine died just after I had some decent results and so I have not been able to really get into it....

Ah well. Perhaps I'll give it a whirl in free mode just to see what the hoopla is all about....

yes its official, it works on vista 64bit but its only uses x86 thus not using all the resources that it could which is a big let down
however on a positive note it does work extremely well

I've never been a big fan of it, but it's great there's more choice out there again for us 64 bit users!

Well, MBAM works on x64 - not the resident real time scanner (only available for the paid version) but the scan on demand free version does.

So far it runs pretty well with no blaring problems. It found 66 trackers on the first scan, which is precisely why I bought it. :D

Are there any issues with Ad-Aware conflicting with Norton's Internet Security 2007 software? Norton came preloaded on my vista x64 machine that I've had for only 4 months or so. Do I really need both of these programs?

I have not heard of any conflicts between the two programs
and i would highly recommend downloading Ad-Aware and installing it

In my experience Norton does not live up to its name
in the past with Norton running i have managed to receive many virus's and technical computer related problems
i have had to remove it from many pc's of friends and colleges when they have no longer been able to access the net, boot there pc's and many more

what i have my self and reccomend to people now it to have the following

Thunerbird Email
FireFox [with add blocker +]
Adaware
Spybot
CCleaner
Avast antivirus
A Router with a good firewall
or if they dont have a router to get one or install comodo firewall ( temprimental but vigerus )
all the above are free to download and use
and the best way to stay virus and spyware free is to try and avoid places like Grab.com ,gambling and adult sites

out of all that on average i get from Adaware 2 to 4 tracking cookies a fortnight with a low tac rating of around 3
and i know theses cookies are only monitoring what web broser i use

AA and NIS are both installed on my wifes notebook (VistaHP64) and I haven't seen any problems yet. Do you need both? I can't make that decision for you, but being oldskool I buy products for what they do best and turn off that which conflicts. AA's got a strong rep for malware handling.

I use Spybot S+D since AA never usually found all the crapware, spyware and adware I knew still resided on the system, used both for awhile but sided with Spybot since it allways removed everything and lets you check system files yourself easily.

It is a good hope - but keep hoping. When Ad-aware was free, and when they *first* went commercial, that was the best their products ever were. Since then they have continually slipped behind the pack....

I have a Beta license that was still active so I installed it and am using it now - every time I open IE, I get 3 prompts from Ad-Watch because ieuser.exe changes something in the registry - same on close.

Other normal occurrences cause Ad-watch to go overboard - in 20 minutes of surfing and loading a program I had 22 occurrences of Ad-watch popups.

I won't be using Ad-Aware long, let me tell you - long enough to write a review and to trash it.

Every time I install Adaware, be 2007 or the new 2008, within 8 hours I get a BSOD. After I uninstall everything is stable. I'm running Vista Home premium x64 with sp1, Q6700, 6 gigs of ram on an HP machine. I am running Norton Ghost 14 and McAfee Security Center. I love Adaware but don't like the BSOD's. Any suggestions?

i think thas your problem there.... not sure which one though just try disabling 1 at a time and see how you go.... my guess will be Norton ghost

Guys,

I used to love adware, at the moment im running adaware se on vista64, i have installed the newest 2007 but i noticed that there a AAService always running, which i didnt like, esp if you like gaming.

Even though im using the adaware se (old) i got it updated to the last update and its running fine, with 2008 does aaservice still run in the background and does it conflict with any apps or games etc.

I might switch over to 2008 depends on your responses
