Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Everything works fine: except for my Photoshop program.


Did a 'fresh' factory install after a critical system crash about a year ago
I have been using the system problem free since then...
up to date on all the Updates... service pack 1 then 2 etc, etc...

seems the computer updated with some "improvements" recently. I notice the frames around my windows are semi-invisible... the calendar on my desktop has a slight edge to it that it didn't have before... very subtle changes that would be invisible to the naked eye of any casual observer... but very noticeable to anyone using the same machine on a regular basis.

The changes don't appear to be glitches, but feel as though someone somewhere decided to do some home improvements to spruce things up with the look and feel. I could be wrong... and the issues may not be related... but I have been experiencing problems with Photoshop not loading up anymore, around the same time my computer "got a fresh coat of paint".

I "Unistalled" Photoshop, then "Reinstalled" it... but the same thing happens. It almost finishes loading up, but then it just freezes, and all the reboots in the world have not helped... so I tried installing a much older version of Photoshop, and it finally loaded... but its wonky as heck... so working with it as I normally would is like walking on a tightrope without a safety net. Requiring me to save after each and every flick of a mouse. I know, its crazy.

Hopefully I am not the only one this is happening to, so there may be a patch somewhere... I sure hope I don't have to do a fresh install yet again.

My system works beautifully otherwise... if not for Photoshop, I wouldn't even know that there was a problem with my machine.

First of all, can you run CKScanner:

Download CKScanner from here and save it to your desktop. Then open it and click the Search for files button. When the search completes, click the Save List To File button.

Attach this list with your next post please :)

Okay that's great. No problems there :)

Download and install CCleaner from here:

CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

Run the cleaner bit, NOT THE REGISTRY ONE. Then reboot and try and install Photoshop again.

Also, what version of photoshop is it? CS5? And where did you get it from?

Hi Tom... did as you recommended...

then removed the old version, installed the preferred version of Photoshop but ... No luck...

Doubtful Photoshop is the problem...

its not the latest version, have had it for years and no problems, on this system and previous ones. I don't have the urge and finances to upgrade for features that I've lived without all this time. Its my own copy so its not some tricked out download from a dark corner of the net or anything like that.

Not sure why it won't load anymore... from one day to the next... poof... no mo' Pho...

Because of the subtle changes in appearance to my desktop and such, assuming the latest Windows Update did something that makes Photoshop not compatible anymore...

or ... awww heck... I have no idea why... so fustrating! Should be working just fine, as it has for years...

any suggestions?

its Photoshop CS (photoshop.8)

Photoshop.6 loaded up fine, allowed me access to my files, and I can modify the files... but its wonky as heck.

Version .8 is ancient I know... but as stated previously, I don't have the need or budget to upgrade for features I have lived without all this time. (it serves me beautifully as is.)

I am leaning more towards ruling out Photoshop completely as the cause... because then it would NEVER have worked on this x64 system... and it has, flawlessly from day one. So it not working from one day to the next... points me to another cause for the issue.

I'm using Norton 360 for everything...


(I realize there are other utilities out there specifically designed for maleware and other bad things out there... but research states that having more than one type of anti-virus program on the same machine, may cancel each other out, and become less effective... you think that maybe I got nuked by something malevolent, even though the previous scan showed none were found?)

Yes you're absolutely spot on, they can start creating conflicts with eachother.

I was asking not because I think you've got a virus, but because it may be stopping the installation for some reason.

Try disabling your protection whilst you install it, remember to turn it back on afterwards!

Select until system restart. Try installing Photoshop and then reboot - whether it works or not.

that could've been the magic bullet... but unfortunately... no luck.
