Im not sure if i am posting this in the right forum, but i have an E-system 3090 UK Laptop which has Windows Vista Basic and Intel Celeron M420 1.6GHz.

Not long after I got the laptop, I tried to burn a cd of a few mp3s. everything seemed to work ok, but when i tried to play the cd in my car it didnt work. When i tried to put a cd into the laptop, it didnt register it but it wouldnt open either. Finally after about 2months, i got the cd made.

After a while I tried to install microsoft office xp onto my computer, again this wouldnt register that i had a cd in my pc, and it took a while to get the cd out.

Im not sure what is wrong with my disc thing or how to fix it. No error msg comes out at all, but it does sound like its trying to read the cd sometimes.

Any help on how to fix this would be great as i really want to get Microsoft XP onto my computer asap, vista is rubbish! I need excel, word and powerpoint! Thank you :)

Hi Kltoni08,

It sounds like your CD/DVD drive is bad/going bad. If the laptop is still under warranty I'd look at having the manufacturer replace the CD/DVD drive.

Why post this on a VISTA site then? :sarc: But to be fair, Vista Basic is pretty poor.

+1 Your drive is bad.
