Solved odd one out?

Ive purchased about 4-5 computers in my life so far and have always gotten the OS disc along with the computer. Now just recently ive purchased my first laptop wich is also my first pc that uses the vista OS. I sadly relized after going threw the contents of my new pc that the vista OS disc was not included. My main questions are "Don't all pc's come with the OS disc?" and "Was i saposed to recieve the OS disc and if so should i be contacting my manufacture to claim this?"
I would just like to know this becuase i would rather reformat (if the need to do so ever arises) my own pc than haveing to take it else where.

Hello reborngod,

Welcome to the forums.

Most computers now come with a recovery partition on drive D: This is designed to restore the comp to the state that it arrived in. The owners manual should contain instructions on how to run the recovery.

If you need to run the recovery, be sure all personal files are saved to another disk or partition from the C: drive as this will be formated in the process.

I get the feeling from recovery partitions that all is not as it seems, coming preloaded with unwanted bloat ware and makes recovery more difficult when you have replaced vital hardware and the biggest downside to it is when the warranty runs out then you hard drive fails..... well.... quite simply put..... your scre..........ahemm, your left with a bigger unnecessary repair bill
but hey that's just me and my opinion

What brand and model of computer do you have? Most of them have a way to let you create a set of recovery disks from the Recovery Partition to also use instead of just the Recovery Partition.

I agree, but it saves them a buck or two a box and I don't know that there's much we can do about it. I perfer having not only the OS disc, but the discs for each program. That way I could format on arrival and install what I want. Ahh, the good old days.

Well its an acer 5315. I did find the restore to to factory image but unfortunatly ive forgotten my pass(currently taken steps to retreive it :P) Ive got to agree not being able to refortmat from scratch makes me worry about how much useless stuff is going to be thrown back on my machine.

I have found this for you to burn a set of recovery CD's :

• Open the Acer eRecovery Management program
• Click the burn disk button at the bottom
• Click the create factory default disk button
• Put a blank DVD in the drive when prompted and follow the remaining on screen instructions

Please keep your recovery disk safe as if something happens to your computer (for example you change the hard disk drive) you can boot your computer using this disk and restore the computer to its origional settings.

This will not remove your origional hard disk drive based recovery and you can still run this using Alt + F10 or through the Acer eRecovery management utilty.

whats annoying is the fact that they put so much bloatware in the partition as mentioned before and what if your hd failed no recovery partition then. They should always include an os disk in my opinion.
