Why some forum recommend that can joined 2 videos together with cmd since you can't play back the 2 videos joined together.So my question what is the purpose behind by the using the copy -b video1 + video2 video3 in cmd even the size the of video3 is the same size of video1 + video2 added together?

There's a lot that has to go into putting videos together; video, audio, codec, etc. I have only used Windows Movie maker to put videos together. Try that.

The reason I use cmd to join videos together because all my videos file format are .flv by default movies maker can't read .flv format unless youconvert to a format which movie maker can understand.

Anyway again why some website forum recommend using cmd copy -b command to join videos even the 2 videos is joined but can not play the 2nd videos that is joined it play just the first video .

I have never seen that recommendation however I know enough about flash to know that you probably won't be able to merge the files without the sources files that where used to create the flv files. That is part of the security behind flash. When someone creates a flash file the source files are compiled to create the flv file which is then shared with others or put on a website. I know of no other way around it. I doubt that command would work with any video file because of the file's complexity.

I don't know why anyone would recommend this. Anyone can offer advice on a public forum whether they have any knowledge of the subject matter or not. That is the nature of a forum. It is entirely possible that the poster simply assumed this would work without actually trying it. I have seen this kind of thing many times.

Very few file types can be joined by such simple methods. In the case of video files it would not be possible unless the the file format was specifically designed to work this way.

But what I don't understand why the size of the new created file has the right file size when you added any videos size created by using the cmd copy -b command.

When you use the copy command to append files the second is merely tacked at the end of the first. The size of the new file will be the sum of the 2 original files. Precisely what you would expect. But this is useful only for some simple file types, such as plain text files.

Video files contain a header that contains details about the video, such as it's length and internal organization. In the case of flash files it is more complex than that. The copy command of course knows nothing about any of this. Any file tacked on at the end of the video is essentially just useless junk. I am actually surprised that it plays at all.

It was never intended that a user would be able to modify a flash video file. In fact it was specifically designed to prevent this.

My points is to save as much time as possible to join a 2 videos or whatever numbers of videos together that's why I wanted to do it with cmd because let say if you don't have internet access to download those programs it would be inconvience right?

Using any of the video editing software I mentioned allows you to view and edit the contents of a .flv, if they support .flv.

For instance, you can download the trial version of Nero 2014 at nero.com. Open Nero Video and select Make Advanced Movie. Import one or more of your .flv files. You will be able to view, edit and join the files to create a DVD-Video, Blu-ray or AVCHD DVD. Or you can just export the project to the same or another video format.

Normally no.

The source code is not included in the flv file. Typically only the creator of the flv file would have access to the source code.

To modify a flv file you need software such as Wither 3 has mentioned. There is no way it can be done with the cmd copy command.

I agree. You can run it and view the video, hear the audio, or perform any interactive functions programed into the file by the creator, you might be able to export certain elements such as video, but you can't edit it without the source files. As for joining video files together with a command, as we've tried in various ways to explain video files are just too complex to do that. Please don't take this the wrong way but I've never heard of a command that joins files together however I can't see it being used for anything more than simple text files created by notepad. Anything else has information that cannot be processed by the command prompt. There is always information that can only be handled by programs designed to process it such as Word for a word document.

Using copy binary to append videos works with stuff like .mpg that has no index. You can also do it with .avi but then you need to run it through a utility that reindexes the .avi file. To me it's only really useful for segmented downloads when you want to watch a section of the download to see it has uncorrupted video. Download 10 MB and look at it before you download 10 GB etc..

It's been many years since I've heard of the "copy binary" command. Seems I used that for something. Maybe when I was running DOS.

Townsbg- I don't understand your statement that you can't edit the .flv without the source files.

Actually the flv files aren't edited. The source files are edited and then recompiled into a new flv. It's a way to hide the source files and code.
