New Sound Card Sound still choppy

I just invested in a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio card, because my mp3's were getting choppy, more so if I was running a backup or my Anti Virus was scanning.

I uninstalled the onboard sound, installed all of the latest drivers for the card.

BUT MY SOUND IS STILL CHOPPY!!

I am now at a loss as to why this is happening, granted I am not normally awake when my Anti Virus is scanning, but I have also invested in Acronis True Image and Paragon Hard Disk Manager.

Yes I know overkill, but Paragon restores a lot quicker than Acronis, but as I have paid for both programmes. I really don't want to uninstall Acronis.

However this doesn't solve why my mp3's are playing choppy. I thought I would take the pressure off the mobo's onboard sound, and was hopeful the problem would be solved, alas it isn't

Please post details of your operating system (SP) updates etc. Also include AV software make & version & the current version of your sound drivers etc.

When was the last time you complete any of the standard maintenance tasks, defrag & check disk or disk clean etc.

Vista Ultimate 32 Bit.

SP2 all of the updates have been done.

AV - Kasperksy Internet Securit Suite 2011.

Disk Defrag done on every reboot - so regularly.

Dsk check, not so often, did one on a suspected corrupted external hd, turned out not be faulty at all.

Having to do all hd's and partitions now because of a BIOS update, crashed my system, currently running disk checks now in order to restore my OS.

GA-MA770T-UD3P Rev 1.1 from memory AM2+
My Gigabyte Manual advises me to turn off the onboard sound in the BIOS which I have done.

And as you may know from my previous "Updated BIOS caused system crash" I have the latest BIOS in, although Gigabytes site says it's 11C, it only updated it to 11 here.

I have a Gigabyte GA-MA77OT-UD3P (notice the P on the end), different motherboard , and as for having 11 and not 11C as the website says, for that I have no answer, I use Gigabytes @BIOS to flash my BIOS, always have done, for some reason the qflash won't work for me.

I think I may have stumbled across why my sound is still choppy, even though I invested in a separate sound card, my card is a :-
CREATIVE SOUND BLASTER X-Fi XTREME AUDIO PCI EXPRESSI am thinking now I should have gone for a :-
CREATIVE X-FI TITANIUM PRO FATAL1TY SOUND BLASTER CARD

The difference being the second card has x-ram, which from the reading I have been doing at creative ....... Get unbeatable performance with hardware accelerated audio that blows motherboard audio away.

I don't know how much of that is BS or truth

The only thing I have added since the build has been the sound card, and the only reason I got that in the first place, was because my sound was choppy :eek: and the new sound card hasn't helped.

No drivers at all for the onboard sound, the Gigabyte Manual says to turn off the onboard sound if you install a separate sound card, so I did that, and to ensure no conflicts, I removed all Realtek audio drivers, but I did have R2.55 installed (the latest drivers)

Try uninstalling your AV software & install the following: -

Microsoft Security Essentials | Protect against viruses, spyware, and other malware

This is to maintain protection But to test to see if the Kasperksy Internet Securit Suite 2011 is the cause. OK?

OoOoOo ack, (is thinking of the 142 exclusions), ok will do ........ what makes you suspect it's my AV?, the sound gets choppy when doing a disk defrag, more so when I am backing up my system.

When defragging, AV *should* check each file the system accesses.

In regards to exclusions, is it possible to export your AV's settings?
