PLEASE HELP! Problem with opening large folders

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. and every time I try to open a large folder with a bunch of loose images(by loose images, I mean no sub folders), windows explorer freezes up and I get an error called AppHangB1. At first I thought something was wrong with my memory card or card reader, because I couldn't open the folder in my memory card and it has a bout 3 GB's worth of loose images in it. But I have a folder about the same size full of loose images on my external hard drive and the I had the same problem.

I have a folder on my computer where I keep all my images, and it has at least a thousand images in it, but I can search through it just fine, because they are all divided into a bunch of sub folders. I only get this problem when I try to open a folder with several hundred loose images.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Do you have the folder view set to thumbnail view, if so, have you tried to set the folder to list view, just to see if it would open then?


I'm only guessing here but

Maybe a ram issue? How much do you have? have you run any test on it? Have you played with the voltage or timings in the past? Is your computer a custom build or retail?

You could have a corrupted file in the Folder. However, to access it, download a copy of a file management prog called Ztree, You get a month to try it out, after installing it, "Log On" to the drive where the folder is, navigate to the folder, then when the folder is highlighted, hit the enter key. the prog will then read the files, any corrupted files can be skipped, you can then copy the files to another folder. Hit F1 within the Prog to get user help. This worked for me, worth a go!

I have 3GB RAM, and a 1TB hard drive and I'm not even using 1/4 of it. I defragment the computer and scan for viruses on a regular basis, and I haven't had any viruses in a long while, and got rid of and fixed the ones I had. I never played with voltage or timings either. I costomized this computer and ordered it off of HP's site

I don't think there are any corrupted files, because it works just fine on everyone else's computer. I can easily get the files from it, just by putting the card in another computer but I would like to fix this issue on my computer. It only started doing this about a month or so ago. I'm thinking that maybe I may have messed up something in windows while installing new software. Do yall think that using system restore, and going back to an earlier save point date would help?

Run the system file checker

Use MalwareBytes and do a scan Malwarebytes
Do a defrag with this command in cmd prompt (Start,Accessories,Command Prompt) right click and run as administrator. Defrag.exe C: -W
This is because normal defrag won't do files over 64Mb.

Soneone suggested that I uninstall the driver for the card reader. When you do that, does it reinstall automaticaly?

The vista version should but it's not a big deal to download and reinstall.

Posts I have been looking at say you should not use the "safely remove hardware" for SD cards but the eject.
I just unplug mine.
