Use Vista SP2 DVD to re-install any version

I know how to use a Windows 7 DVD to delete or alter the files so I can use the DVD (or Flash drive) to re-install or repair Windows 7 machines, but I am running into more Vista machines. I have a Vista Ultimate DVD I purchased. I would like to simply modify the files so I can re-install or repair Vista machines. (any version) How is this done? It must be possible. With Windows 7 it's simple, just delete the ie.cfg file, but I cannot seem to figure it out with Vista. Thanks for any info.

you can Download the Untouched MSDN ISO.

They support the selection options that you mentioned here.

No need to remove any files(ei.cfg) from these ISO's.

Hope that's what you are looking for.

If you already have a Vista install dvd, no need to join msdn just for that.

You can use any MS Vista dvd to install any edition of Vista.

No modification needed.

Whatever edition key you enter will be the edition that is installed from the dvd.

If you skip entering the product key, ( untick activate automatically online ), you will be presented with a list of the Editions.

Install any one you want - you then have 30 days to insert the product key.

In that respect the Vista install dvd is better than the 7 install dvd.

To be fair to MS, I believe they locked the 7 install dvd's to one edition to make it easier for people - so they don't accidentally install an edition they don't have a key for.
