How do i lower my memory

hey everyone, happy xmas to everyone.


got a question.....how do i get my computer to run at a lower Memory use..... my mem will run at 3.00GB max. now it's sitting at 1.11GB and the lowest i could get it was 563MB a couple of days ago. the cpu is jumping beetween 71 and 57....... must be doing something.....

if you have any tips on how to lower Memory use i would love to know. :D

Hello hariza,

It sounds like you may have a few programs running in the background. There is a way to check that so what were going to do is:

Start search > type msconfig > hit enter > accept the UAC prompt > browse to the 'startup' tab and post back what runs at start-up please

More than likely there is some programs that don't need to run at start-up -- not only will this improve boot times, it will also lower memory consumption at idle.

Java Platform
Easy Tune 6
HD audio control
AVG Internet sec.
Logitech set point
Google toolbar
Windows OS
and rockstar social club

and i have 22 other programs that have been stopped or disabled.

The list is smaller than I expected lol. Well, we can uncheck the following:
Java Platform, Easy Tune 6, Logitech Set-Point, Rockstar Social Club

Then 'apply' the settings > reboot > notice the difference?

ok i do see a difference......i might have poke around and disable some services.... i will have a look on a list and see if i can stop some of them

There are a few that aren't necessary but for the most part they don't take up much memory. What is the idle at right now?

When I ran Vista 64bit I was using about 1.1 - 1.5GB of ram at idle. Nothing to worry about, Vista is a memory hogger.

ok my mem is sitting on 960MB.......i have looked at a list and disabled some services. sometimes when i finish playing GTA IV it will sit at 730MB or something. anyway going to do a reboot BRB

Like I said, thats not bad at all. Those are good numbers..
