So I am trying to download a image burning software, however my husband has turned control freak and put an admin password and it keeps asking me for it. I dont care about the password I just want to know if there is a program I can download/install without being prompt for the password? Or is there a program already on vista that can burn iso discs? I am getting so frustrated! Thanks in advance.

Hello Malori, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If you are not logged into a administrator account, then you will not be able to install any programs like this without the administrator password. :(

You might threaten to through your husband in the dog house if he doesn't set you up an administrator account, or let you have the password for such cases. ;)

lol...well I did threaten to reformat the computer lol

It's just strange to me, I feel that there should be some sort of way or a program that doesnt seem a threat that it wont prompt me because I have downloaded some programs since this password but of course, the one I actually need , it prompts me for it. Thanks for your help anyways....sometimes I wish I had Windows 7, where the computer comes with the iso burning. :)

if you get the password off him at any time , click start then all programs then accessories then right click command prompt and select run as administrtor

in the resulting box type net user administator /active:yes hit return the reboot , this will add an extra administrator account to the vista logon screen , click that to log in goto control panel and user accounts and password protect the newly created admin account

im not 100% certain but i dont think he will be able to delete that account without the password ;) Maybe Brink could enlighten us

you can then log in as admin whenever you want ;)

There is a good reason for that kind of an arrangement. Imagine a family computer where a bunch of kids install and uninstall programs and make all kinds of "tweaks". That system would not survive for very long. And most systems that malfunction suffered from user mistakes.
PS: depending of what you want to burn, there are "native" Vista facilities too - e.g. in WMM. Plus, many manufacturers put programs on. I have Roxio on my Dell - as example.

I do understand why it is put there for sure, I just figured there is always a way around something, if a person is smart enough to figure out the way around it, I think they would be smart enough not to mess around downloading and installing things with virus' and such. But he did do it for that exact reason as a matter of fact, only instead of it being against kids, he is trying to protect it from me....makes no sense to me since he is the one who downloads limewire and stuff with massive amounts of virus'. Anyways, thats not my point lol....I dont think my dell has anything like that on here...just the bare minimum...guess I will have to go purchase something lol....or reformat ;) Thanks for your help!!

Best solution would be to get your own PC.
