I have a custom toolbar in my Taskbar that points to a folder on my local system. I do not want the icons to appears to the right of the toolbar name instead I want a drop down list to appear. Any ideas?

Unlock the taskbar (right click the taskbar itself -> Lock the Taskbar), shorten the toolbar by dragging that bumpy-looking thingy to the left of it, until only the title is visible.

Before:
Toolbar Expanded.JPG
After:
Toolbar Minimized.JPG

You can then lock your taskbar again. Note: since that drag-able bumpy-looking thingy disappears when the taskbar is locked, some things will appear to shrink when locking the taskbar. If this bothers you, make sure to compensate for the bumpy-looking thingy before locking the taskbar again.

BTW, does anyone know what that bumpy-looking thingy is called? :sarc:

I don't think so. I don't think the registry has user saved settings for the explorer interface. I would think the registry is meant for more "important" settings than that.

Is the custom toolbar to the right or to the left of the program bar? It would probably help to see a screen shot of the whole start bar before and after the apps are open.

I did that. If I have a few applications open half of an icon shows. Any reg hacks for this?

There is a reg hack to make all icons show as just an icon like Windows 7, if you want to try it out:

1) Open start, type regedit and press enter.

2) Accept the UAC prompt.

3) Open up HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics value.

4) In the right pane, choose New, String Value.

5) Name the string MinWidth, and set the value to -255.

6) Exit Regedit and reboot.

If you don't like it delete the key and reboot.

Hmm... I'd like to see that. If you use that reg, I'd appreciate a screen shot. :)

I found it annoying and deleted it. Try it out though. You might like it.

In case anyone else was wondering what it looked like, I might try this out for a while.
