Invalid System Disk?

OK, so me asking for help... :o

Recently I started getting a black screeen with "Invalid system disk...Replace the disk, and then press any key" error at startup.

What could that mean? And when I just press a key, it starts up normally. Everytime my laptop boots, that error comes up, and I press a random key, and everything runs normally again. Weird...:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Anybody here that knows what's happening?

And, Frostmourne, your link is about fixing the error for Windows 95 or something like that, and it does NOT work with Vista. Did you know that?

[No offence] :)

Then it is about time you burn your recovery DVDs from the recovery partition. I m pretty sure the process is explained in the little booklet that came with your lappy (it's slightly different depending on manufacturer).

So you mean that the recovery partition can be made into a Vista Install DVD? I never knew that... I always thought it was different, since I used the partition before, and the process looked different than the installer DVD.

remove your USB sticks everything, CD rom out, no mouse, no network cable (might be trying to boot from network). just run it from how you got the pc with just the touchpad and power adapter restart, tell me how it goes. if that doesnt work we will delve into the bios

Generally speaking, if the manufacturer has an option to create recovery discs Vista will tell you via a bubble in the systray. As said, check the laptop's manual. I needed 4 DVD's and 75min to complete the process.

Nope, I don't have a bubble.

I heard someone who said that Microsoft realized that this problem exists, so they made a single Vista repair DVD. Where can I get that?

Just be aware that the recovery disk that was linked above and an installation disk that you can burn from the recovery partition are not the same thing. With the downloaded recovery disk you cannot reinstall your system the day your HDD goes south and you have to install a new HDD. For that you will need the installation disk from the recovery partition.
I do not know what make PC you have, but e.g. on an HP, you type RECOVERY into the Start/search and "Recovery Disk Creation" turns up above. That is the wizard that lets you create the 2 or 3 DVDs needed for reinstallation (but you can do it only once). Other makes have a slightly different procedure, but as far as I know, all manufacturers that do not provide an installation disk when you buy the PC (like e.g. Dell does), give you the option to burn those DVDs from the recovery partition. As I said earlier, look into the little booklet that came with the PC to see how it works on your PC.

You can also use Vlite to make a backup of a vista full install dvd, if you can access one that is and slipstream SP2 into it.
