CPU temperatures

Hey guys,

My (stock speed) Intel Q9550 @2.83Ghz is running at temps of 105 degrees Celcius or 221 degrees farenheight (for those not from my country)

I dont think this is normal, am i right?

I think this is the sole reason for my constant computer freezes?

Im guessing Im right and I have to get a new CPU fan/heatsink and some top quality thermal paste.

Any suggestions for socket 775? I want the absolute best fan solution available with the best thermal paste known...

What are you using to monitor those temps? Because that is insanely high

No, those temps are far from normal. I'd check that your HSF is properley attached. ie all the pins are firmly pushed in.

Some good CPU Heatsinks are the TRUE 120mm, or either the Noctua NH-U12P or NH-C12P. There are a few others that are good too.

Im using Nvidia System Monitor, Im not too sure if this is correct as you stated, because those temps are far too high. Im putting my desk fan on with my case open and so far so good, but these temps are way too high (I dont think they are accurate). I went into the bios, but I dont know its pretty vague (and my NB and CPU wont be as hot at startup anyway)
But I am concerned. Because I've been getting system freezes for a long time now

Run the computer till the temp getup to the highest then hit the reset button go strate into the bios and have a look at the temps an see if they are right.

Personally, I wouldn't trust certain monitors like NSM etc.

If the BIOS is showing high temps, even after only being on for few a minutes from a cold start, it's a cause for concern.

Try a few different (bmore accurate) montoring apps and see if they are all the/similar temp wise:

If the CPU HSF is correctly installed and it's still showing outrageous temps, check to see if there is a BIOS update available for your mobo.

It could just be a bug with the sensors, but the fact that the PC is freezing tends to suggest otherwise.

that's a 100% sensor malfunction.........., the Q9550 wont take 105c, in reality it would cut out just above 70c & BSOD.

as Smarty has stated try some other monitoring apps

the PC lock up is quite worrying though, try the apps listed above & get back to us...??

Were you cooking eggs or somthing on that thing? I mean 212 Degrees will boil water. If you are running that either your heatsink isnt connceted or its just not registering the temperature correctly. You should shut that thing off before it breaks on you.

Alright guys, I realised that it was the CPU monitor that was buggered, so it doesnt matter too much about that. What would you guys suggest I do about my computer freezing. (it isnt the CPU, the CPU fan nor the heatsink)
