Hi,
When I am browsing pictures in my picture folder- jpegs,
there is a preview option, that lets me preview the image.
I want to change the default which is Windows Photo Gallery,
to Adobe Lightroom 2??

Is there a way I can do this?
I looked in control panel/default programs, but Adobe Lightroom 2 is not there?
Only Windows Photo Gallery?
How do I do this?

Thanks
Rip

Hi Rip,

Most people have not had luck with the thumbnail previews working when any other program is set as the default other than Windows Photo Gallery.

If you still want to try it to see, then in Default Programs you would need to change the "Current Program" for the .jpg and .jpeg file to be associated with the exe file for the Adobe Lightroom 2 program. If it does not give you a preview with that program, then just change it back to Windows Photo Gallery.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi, Ardneh
I have them all set for lightroom, but the preview option in vista lets me preview in Windows photo Gallery, not lightroom?
I need to change this so it previews in Adobe Lightroom, not Windows Photo Gallery?

Thanks

Rip,

I wouldn't attempt to change the Windows Explorer thumbnail previews to be handled by anything other Windows Photo Gallery. 99% of the time the thumbnail previews will stop working without Windows Photo Gallery as default, and you will only have the default icon instead. :(

Sorry Rip.

That would be opening the file with that program to view it instead. If you wanted to change that, then yes, change it to the exe file for Adobe Lightroom 2 in Default Programs.

I thought that you meant the thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer for the image files like below.

I can right click on a jpeg and on the menu there is a "preview", option.
I want adobe lightroom to preview the jpegs, not Windows Photo Gallery.

I hope I do not mess things up?

So how do I know where to change this??

Sorry Rip, you have me confused now.

You say that Lightroom is set as default, but then say it is not in default programs.

When in default programs, you have to click on Browse and navigate to the exe file location for the Lightroom program to set it as the default program. When the program is set as the default program. Vista should use it by default for the previews.

Ok... let me start again.
I have set lightroom to open all my jpegs, jpg.
But when I right click the jpeg and PREVIEW it, it opens in Windows Photo Gallery

In my SET DEFAULT PROGRAMS, I only have these Apps in there-
1.ACDSee 10
2.Firefox
3.Internet Explorer
4.Quicktime
5.Windows Photo Gallery
6.Windows Search Explorer

There is NO Adobe Apps at all?
Nothing?
So, how do I set lightroom, to open the preview, instead of Windows Photo Gallery?

If I go to the Associate A File
the .wdp file is set for Windows Photo Gallery
and all jpeg is set for lightroom.

Does any of that make sense??
Sorry

What if in: Associate A File - you set .wdp with Adobe Photoshop with HD Photo plugin.

Not sure where the plugin comes from.

Rip,

If you have already set the .jpg file extensions to be opened by Adobe Lightroom as the default program using method three in the tutorial link below, then I'm not sure why it is still using Windows Photo Gallery to open the preview for the jpg. images then.

See link here: Default Programs

Is this what you already have done?
