I'll try to be succinct. I purchased an HP Pavilion dv3510 13" notebook yesterday from Best Buy. It came "Optimized" and although no one at BB could give me details other than "we remove the crap you don't need and clean up the registry" I purchased it any way.
After several "Windows Explorer not working" type displays which required 5 (I counted) hard resets in the first 3 hours, countless freezes, and several other issues I don't want to try to remember right now, I called HP and they recommended I reset the system to factory setting which they walked me through. I did this and then, since I paid $40 to "Optimize" my system and the idea of removing bloatware is appealing to me, I took it back to BestBuy to re "Optimize" it. When I got it back home nothing worked. So I returned it and got a brand new, untouched system. (Needless to say, as I read this I seem calm and collected. Yesterday I was ready to kill the first thing that came within reach)
I've had this comp for a day and a half, and I love it. I really like Vista, I like the size and it just makes me all warm and fuzzy... but...
Windows explorer keeps crapping out and when it does I can't access anything other than what was open on the desktop when it crashes and the computer won't shut down without another hard reset. I've done 3 or 4 already.
Also, this also happened with the computer I returned, I get the message "HID Data has stopped working" when I turn it on then the system tells me it will try to solve the issue, then says it can't and I have to hit "close"
So Vista Masters, what gives? Is this typical? How badly did I screw up my system with all my hard resets? What are some tips to avoid this (other than buy a Mac).
Thanks in advance,
Dean
